Jwuma pays people to prepare the data AI systems learn from. You choose which tasks to take and when to do them. Joining is free, training is included and every task shows what it pays before you accept it.
Work on Jwuma is posted as individual projects rather than permanent roles, so the live list changes week to week as clients start projects. You apply once to join, then choose from the listings open to you.
Turning recorded speech into accurate text. Includes accented speech, background noise and conversations with several speakers talking over each other.
Suits: People who listen carefully and can hold a house style in their head.
Worth knowing: The hard part is consistency, not speed. Two transcribers who both hear correctly can still produce work a reviewer scores very differently.
Moving text between languages so it reads naturally rather than literally, including idiom, register and formatting.
Suits: Fluent writers in two or more languages, including regional and less-represented languages.
Worth knowing: Languages with little existing data are where demand is highest and competition lowest. A rarely written language is an advantage here.
Marking up images, text and audio so a model can learn from them: bounding boxes, categories, sentiment, entity tagging.
Suits: People who are consistent and can follow a long, specific guideline without drifting.
Worth knowing: Guidelines go down to whether a wing mirror counts as part of the car. Reading them properly is most of the job.
Recording speech or photographing scenes to a brief. Usually done on a phone, often outdoors and paid per accepted submission.
Suits: People with a smartphone who can follow capture instructions exactly.
Worth knowing: Submissions are checked against the brief before payment, so a batch shot slightly wrong is a batch redone. Reading the brief twice is worth it.
Checking work submitted by other contributors and returning what needs fixing with a reason attached.
Suits: Experienced contributors with a measured accuracy record.
Worth knowing: Not open at signup. Review opens through promotion, which follows measured accuracy on work you have already done.
Work needing professional knowledge: medicine, law, finance, software engineering and similar fields.
Suits: Qualified professionals looking for flexible remote work.
Worth knowing: These pay more and ask for evidence of the background. Listings say plainly what they require rather than leaving you to guess.
The most common reason an application goes nowhere is that somebody applied for the wrong kind of work. Three questions will point you at a sensible place to start.
Most tasks work on either. Collection tasks are done on a phone. Transcription is easier with headphones, and a keyboard you are comfortable on matters more than a fast one.
Enough to load audio or images and upload your work. Nothing unusual, and nothing that needs fibre.
Including languages with little data behind them. If you write a language that is rarely represented online, that is a strength here rather than a footnote.
A few hours a week is enough to start. There is no minimum and no penalty for taking a week off, but accuracy is measured on what you do submit.
Transcription is not typing what you hear. It is applying a house style consistently, which is what a reviewer actually checks. Here is a short one with the audio written out.
Pay is set per task rather than per hour, and the rate is on the listing before you accept it. What a task pays depends on the kind of work, the languages involved and how much review it needs.
The rate is shown first. Nothing is assigned to you without your say.
Within the time the task allows. Release it if you cannot finish, and it goes back to the pool.
A reviewer checks it. If something needs fixing you are told what and why, and you can fix it.
Accepted work is added to your balance and paid out on a regular cycle to your own bank account or mobile wallet. You do not need an account with a payment company: you enter your details once and payouts go there. M-PESA in Kenya, MTN, AirtelTigo or Telecel in Ghana, MTN, Airtel or Flexipay in Uganda, a bank account in South Africa and almost everywhere else.
Accuracy is measured on the work you actually do, and you can see your own score with every component and how many observations it is based on. Promotion follows those measurements, and a person makes the decision.
Jwuma never asks anyone to pay to work, to pay for training or to pay for equipment. There is no fee to join and no deposit. If a site claiming to be us asks you for money, it is not us. Our only contributor platform is platform.corpshore.ai, and we are operated by Corpshore AI.
The work is AI data work. That includes transcribing audio, translating between languages, labelling images and text, collecting speech or photo samples and reviewing other contributors' work. Some projects also need subject knowledge, such as medicine, law or software.
No experience is needed for most projects. You apply, upload a CV and take a short course for the type of work you want to do. Some specialist projects do ask for a professional background, and those say so on the listing.
For most tasks you need a computer or a smartphone and a reliable internet connection. Transcription work is easier with headphones. Photo and speech collection tasks are done on a phone.
There is no minimum. You choose which tasks to take and when to do them. Availability from a few hours a week up to full time is normal, and you say which suits you when you apply.
Applications are reviewed by a person, not automatically. You will hear back by email with a decision, and if you are approved you will be guided through setting up your account and your first course.
